NICU/Pediatrics Minimum Specimen Requirements:

Minimum volumes will increase as a patient's HCT increases. HCT ≥ 55% will require double the amount of blood for most tests. Thus, if a child had a 60% HCT, one would need a little over 1 mL of blood to perform testing. Discontinue use of red top microtainers unless specifically requested for sendout testing. Use Yellow top (SST) microtainers instead.

Accredited Laboratories

At Northern Arizona Healthcare, our Flagstaff Medical Center and Verde Valley Medical Center laboratories are accredited by the College of American Pathologists or CAP. The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is internationally recognized and is the only accrediting organization to use teams of practicing laboratory professionals as inspectors.

In addition, all our labs are certified through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Program, which lets us receive Medicare and Medicaid payments.
